The 2016-17 hunting seasons have sustained many changes. The big game units have increased from three to five, all with their own antlerless bag limits. The non-quota antlerless deer hunts have morphed into these five units. The definition of a buck is no longer an antler at least three inches above the hairline; now any visible antler is a buck, whether male or female.
The elk season has five new tags for the new archery season (Oct. 3-7) and some private lands are now open for elk. Find all of the changes in the front of the 2016-17 Tennessee Hunting and Trapping Guide, usually published in early August, or go to www.tnwildlife.org.
